Course Narrative

Guided by the Faculty’s commitment to responsible and sustainable leadership, the MBA is structured around a set of ten core subjects, organised in three phases:

  1. Diagnostics, where students learn to diagnose issues in real organisations with a focus on accounting (MBA 901 Accounting for Managerial Decision-Making), marketing (MBA 902 Strategic Marketing Management) and employee engagement and talent management (MBA 903 Responsible Talent Management Strategies);

  2. Exploration, where students explore the latest thinking and practices in organisations and research worldwide while developing skills in business transformation (MBA 904 Design Thinking and Business Transformation), innovation and entrepreneurship (MBA 905 Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation), and financial strategy and governance (MBA 906 Financial Strategy and Governance);

  3. Integration and Application, where students develop their strategic decision-making skills (MBA 907 Decision Effectiveness in Strategic Management), undertake a real-world business project (MBA 908 Strategic Business Project), hone their personal effectiveness as responsible leaders (MBA 909 Responsible Leadership Effectiveness) and address challenges and opportunities from participant organisations through engagement in masterclasses and a conference (MBA 910 Leading Edge Management Cases). Students are guided in their selection of specialisations (in the case of MBA Advanced), two elective subjects and extracurricular learning through their preparation, during the Orientation Program, of their individual Career and Personal Development Plan.

The subjects in the Integration and Application phase are the points at which students are able to confirm their attainment of proficiency and expertise.

  • In MBA 907 Decision Effectiveness in Strategic Management and MBA 908 Strategic Business Project, students demonstrate their ability to integrate advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of recent developments in business disciplines and professional practice, analyse real-world business situations and problems, and create innovative, sustainable and judicious solutions to such challenges.

  • Additionally, in MBA 908 Strategic Business Project, MBA 909 Responsible Leadership Effectiveness and MBA 910 Leading Edge Management Cases, students execute business ideas and plans through their development of a range of organisational and communication skills. Specifically, in MBA 908 Strategic Business Project, students attain proficiency in written communication and their ability to plan and execute a business project, whilst in MBA 909 Responsible Leadership Effectiveness and MBA 910 Leading Edge Management Cases, they are able to confirm their proficiency in oral communication and critical reflection, and ability to collaborate responsibly.

  • Students’ gradual and iterative development is carefully scaffolded throughout the course. Subjects from mostly the Exploration phase develop student knowledge and the skills of critical and strategic thinking and organisational and communication skills following their introduction in the Diagnostics phase. For instance, MBA 904 Design Thinking and Business Transformation, MBA 905 Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation, MBA 906 Financial Strategy and Governance and MBA 908 Strategic Business Project develop student knowledge and skills of analysing real-world business situations and creating innovative, sustainable and judicious solutions, following their introduction in MBA 901 Accounting for Managerial Decision-Making, MBA 902 Strategic Marketing Management and MBA 903 Responsible Talent Management Strategies.

Students’ learning activities include relevant and current case studies that compare theory with examples of leading edge organisational practices, guest lectures delivered by industry professionals, peer learning and critical reflection, followed by undertaking assessments that focus on using and applying knowledge and skills in real-life settings. The collective learning experience and authentic assessments enable students to attain knowledge and skills to standards that are commensurate with those of international business education requirements and a Level 9 AQF qualification.
