Course Narrative

The Graduate Diploma in Business Administration is a nested qualification of the Master of Business Administration degree, and covers the ‘Diagnostics’ and ‘Exploration’ stage of the program.  As outlined in the MBA Course Narrative, in the Diagnostics stage, students learn to diagnose issues in real organisations with a focus on accounting (MBA 901 Accounting for Managerial Decision-Making), marketing (MBA 902 Strategic Marketing Management) and employee engagement and talent management (MBA 903 Responsible Talent Management Strategies). In the Exploration stage, students explore the latest thinking and practices in organisations and research worldwide while developing skills in business transformation (MBA 904 Design Thinking and Business Transformation), innovation and entrepreneurship (MBA 905 Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation), and financial strategy and governance (MBA 906 Financial Strategy and Governance).

In addition to acquiring knowledge relating to business disciplines, students also develop academic literacy and skills in critical analysis, problem solving, ethical reasoning, teamwork, communication and reflection. These skills are introduced in the Diagnostics stage and further developed in the Exploration stage. For instance, MBA 904 Design Thinking and Business Transformation, MBA 905 Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation, MBA 906 Financial Strategy and Governance and MBA 908 Strategic Business Project develop student knowledge and skills of analysing real-world business situations and creating innovative, sustainable and judicious solutions, following their introduction in MBA 901 Accounting for Managerial Decision-Making, MBA 902 Strategic Marketing Management and MBA 903 Responsible Talent Management Strategies.

Student take part in the full range of MBA learning activities including relevant and current case studies that compare theory with examples of leading edge organisational practices, guest lectures delivered by industry professionals, peer learning and critical reflection, followed by undertaking assessments that focus on using and applying knowledge and skills in real-life settings. The collective learning experience and authentic assessments enable students to attain knowledge and skills to standards that are commensurate with those of international business education requirements and a Level 8 AQF qualification.
